Well speaking as a OLD TIMER here the two I tried where very flow restricting on the pump used and after a few week once scale and worms and slim started to build up one stopped working and the other just started to go pop or click every time the diverter switched the flows then with in 4 months all where dead.. Just like the HrdroFlows the gears can't handle the hardness of the water and just using the water flow to move the gears any grit or sand just jammed them up. O/M is the shiznit as I said cost a lot more but will last many trouble free yrs and all that could go wrong is the servo motor cheap and easy to replace..I have yet to have one fail or stop.

Thank You, it really helps to hear someone's exp instead of wasting my money. Is the O/M something that I can add later as long as I have the extra holes drilled for circulation and just have them hooked up to power heads in the wet/dry 4 now?

having sand in a wet/dry: might as well have a refugium
the wet/dry is designed for a purpose. if anything place rock upto the water line with bio balls above in the wet/dry section.
a filter sock will pull out micro particles, but corals like the micro particles, a filter sock could be used on the end of the skimmer to minimize bubbles
if your tank isnt together yet, a closed loop system will add flow also. could also loop in conjunction with a chiller. o/m's work good, scwd doesnt

goto to my photo section and check out the pics, i have both a refugium and a wet/dry. if the tank isnt together yet, could try a closed loop for more circulation.

Oh wow I have a lot more research to do cause what I am thinking of looks nothing like that.:-[ All I have so far it a 30 gallon tank to use and someone that is going to drill my tank and run lines to the 30 gallon tank. I also have a red sea berlin protein skimmer but I am not sure how I am going to hook it up yet.

Yes just drill the holes first and you can run the pipes down and add valves and then set the pump in a go Otty's 265 build hhe has a picture of his O/M set up if you want to see one ? I really don't do much with pictures .. But just think simple when dealing with me LOL Thats how I try to do things simple and efficient. Have broken and repaired everything there is in the hobby :)
