    OK, experiment over.

    The tank wasn't really as happy as it should have been. The tank was accumulating too much nitrate and I assume DOC. It developed red slime and just wasn't healthy. I had to take strong measures to remove the slime.

    I don't think there is anything wrong with pulling out a lot of wet skimmate, but even if I'm pulling out a gal+ a day, it still needs partial water changes. I have it currently on a schedule of 15% every 3 weeks plus heavy skimming and it seems much happier. I could also be because the tank is now over 4 months old.

    I'm also rigging a nitrate remover and a UV sterilizer into the system.
