hello everyone! even though i have had saltwater tanks in the past (55&110) i just got a new nanocube28 which i plan on making a reef tank , i find alot has changed in the hobby in the past 5 years..lol i'm sure i will have alot of questions once i get it going . as of now i spent all my money on the tank and chemicals so my a$$ has nothing but brand new saltwater in it! i'll save those pics for later!..lol even though i prefer salt to freshwater tanks i ran across this on a design website. this company in asia makes these freshwater tanks that are just as beautiful as reef tanks. aqua forest aquarium click on the galllery link and check em out. thanks guys! tony:)

Welcome to 3reef! Always good to have another Floridian.

    What chemicals did you buy?

If you bought chemicals to treat tap water, you should switch to RO/DI water. The chemical treatment does nothing for phosphates which will cause algae blooms. RO/DI which stands for reverse osmosis deionized water is a filtration process that removes everything from the water and leaves you with pure H2O. Your LFS may sell RO/DI water or for a nanocube 28 you wouldn't need a very large system.

If the chemicals were calcium, magnesium, and alkalinity supplements you don't need to use those until you start adding corals that use them up rapidly.

For those of you joining us that are new to the hobby - the best piece of advice you'll get around here as a saltwater newbie is 3Reef's slogan
    "Go slow, let it grow."
And for those experianced hobbyists joining us - it's still good advice :p
good luck and post pics soon :)

I would have to agree. I am a newbie to the 3Reef and I have learned over the course of years with my saltwater tanks slow is better. I am in the process of cycling a 110 gallon tank now... What is funny is my daughter is getting into this hobby at the young age of 9, however she is having a hard time with the patience part lol. I keep telling her patience and time will save money down the road :cheesy:.

thanks guys! the girl that sold me the tanks said she had the same set up so i basically bought everything she had which was calcium concentrate, phosphate remover, micro-lift all-in-one master supplement, micro-lift special blend, and micro-lift complete...just got the water tested and it was good ph needed to go up a little. my tank is still a little cloudy though and it's been 1 week already , is that even an issue? or will it clear up eventually?
