What about this for a sump?

What about a wet/ dry filter set up as a sump- at least at a glance it seems less complicated for someone with no expierience setting up a sump (like me) to set up- here is an example of what I am talking about:

Here is a link to the thread I started when I began work on my DIY sump/fug. There is a concept drawing in the beginning and pictures of my progress at the end. It is complete with LR rubble trickle and a place to put media before the refugium that is 13"x12" space. I used a 30L so I could have plenty of room where my pump will sit due to your water evaporation showing up there.
