I dose Cal as of now about once every 2 weeks for now , in the future will employ the cal reactor as I don't have much of a load on it right at this time.

I use Reef Solution that has everything except Cal. Check it out. Luna

The way I see it, if you do WC regularly, you really dont need any additives, unless you are over stocked and the comsumption rate excedes inbetween WC. If you dont do WC, then you need to add additives that are being consumed by corals. Luna

I have to dose 2 part and mag because of the stony load in both tanks. I also add amino acids to my sps dominant tank due to over skimming

my tank is pretty new (4 months or so now). I started dosing calcium about 3 weeks ago b/c despite switching from instant ocean to IO reef crystals, it doesn't rise above 350. just in the last few days, as calcium is now 400, my dKH is down to 8, so i'm dosing baking soda lightly to slowly hit 10.

i'm surprised that water changes are thought to be that effective in raising calcium. i remember looking at one web source that evaluated calcium levels in commerical sea salt mixes and they all seemed to run much lower than the 400 mg/l cutoff used as necessary for coral growth
