I am looking at protein skimmers and some of the measurements include 10-15 inches in width or length. I am not worried about the height but when my sump is only 36 inches long how am I going to fit 15 inches in for the protein skimmer when I need enough room for the fuge and return section. I am figuring on a skimmer to handle double or more of my tank size which is 90. I just never thought these skimmers were that big. UGH !

There are some smaller ones- I'll let the others chime in with brands- I went with the reef octopus xs 160 which is 8x9 which was on the smaller side and allowed me to squeeze in a decent size fuge, I think it is rated to 160 gal

the reef octopus is a great start. just keep searching for skimmers and look at our sponsors, all the best brands are members here. if you want you can even ask them to recommend a skimmer from their line-up. good luck~!

I was actually looking at the Reef Octopus® Extreme XS 8" In Sump Skimmer, but the dimensions were 15" x 9.4" x 23".

look at the swc cones they have a lot of good write ups and have a smaller foot print. .. also keep in mind when looking for a skimmer what the water depth is that it runs well at. they vary so much

tunzes also have some small footprint models.
