    So, today a friend of mine asked me if I got a starfish. I said no, and yet there is this little star shaped thing on the side of my tank.

    And.. I instantly thought of asking you!

    I think it might be Asterina spp.

    Asterina star, most are harmless. Very common live rock HH.

    How would it get into the tank so late though? I haven't added anything new in months.

    There is so much life going on inside your Live Rock that you will be amazed what can show up after a year or more.

    Yeah, Asternia Star. Like Dowtish said... you would be surprised what just happens to appear even years after you set up your tank.

    For instance, here is a good example of the stuff that happens sometimes.
