I have never tried to make it myself, feel like i'm going to go broke with the recent frequent w/c . needless to say, I buy mine at LFS. feel like it's too much responcibility to have the RO unit and then mix the salt in!

The 100 GPD Dow membrane is the absolute worst choice possible! Talk to a vendor, the 100 is not even approved for drinking water use in the US, its is rated for " Pool and Spa Use Only" by the ANSI/NSF. It is a 90% rejection rate Nano Filter membrane not a 96-98% Reverse Osmosis membrane. HUGE DIFFERENCE!
No respectable vendor will sell you the Dow 100 without warning you of the low quality. It is and was never designed for drinking water quality and certainly not reef quality which is even higher. DO NOT fall into that trap, you will be extremely disappointed once you realize the difference.

While I know I agree with you, maybe you could link that post to the post you're speaking of.

Please elaborate because 0 TDS is 0 TDS. Is it not?

Look up the 100 GPD Dow Filmtec nano filter on their own website, its plain as day. It is not a RO membrane and is not approved as such in the USA. It has a seperate graph than their 25, 50 and 75 GPD real RO membranes and is very different.

The reason it is not approved for drinking water is it does not provide 3 log removal of viruses and bacteria like Cryptosporidium and Giardia as a 96-98% RO membrane does. In the reef world the difference is DI resin life is cut by something like quadruple. For every 2% rejection rate you lose you cut the DI life in half, imagine how much longer DI resin will last going from 90% to 98% rejection. The cost of ownership is much much less.
