What are coral frag prices near you?

Well, yesterday I posted a thread seeing what price all you fellow 3reef friends get live rock for. I can't believe the price Wisconsin, as well as some other states, sell live rock for. I feel like a sucker for buying some of my rocks at those prices (especially when most of the rocks have aphasia and other pests). Norg and I went to the local fish store and got some frags of corals last night and it got me thinking. What are people in other states paying for frags of coral and what size are they getting?

For me a few heads of zoas or a small mushroom will cost anything from $10-25. 1 inch birdsnests and monticaps $30-50. 1 inch frogspawn $60. Any other type of coral will probably be more. If you want a decent size coral (around 6 inches) it will cost anywhere from $80-200 and sometimes more.

Wow that is crazy expensive. Prices can vary wildly around town here in Dallas but a pink birdnest 1" frag I would say $10-$15 in a store. If you see it in a store usually there are so many of orange monti caps , pink birdnest, xenia , GSP in the local community people sell them for $5-10 through the club. It's not unusual for people to just give those corals away. I'm probably 50/50 when buying a coral from a fellow reefer they just give me something common like the ones above, also got an orange digitata and blue tort once. The zoa price you listed sounds normal but that can vary greatly depending on what zoa it is.
I paid $60 for my frogspawn that was a full colony probably 4" wide.
If the birdnest is an ORA green birdnest that may be a decent price from a store.

 

Wow. I knew i was getting ripped off a little compared to other states, but jeeze. I'm thinking about getting the rest of my frags from friends and craigslist.

 

me too. i knew we were getting ripped off alot but where else is there to go? we will have to try some other fish stores. horkn works at one, ill talk to him about it again. the prices we pay are insane. 12.50 a pound for live rock..... that is crazyness.

 

Next weekend we should go and check that guys store out. Hopefully by then I'll have the camaro and we can be riding in style.

 

My LFS sells SPS frags for $15. May be worth a road trip to Algonquin, IL.

 

either that or we bump our way to IL! lol yeah. that would be sweet.

But if you use gps the man will know where you are also be sure to wear your tinfoil hats !! They really work !!
