I've found a lot of info on "easy corals," but was wondering what types of corals are safe (or safer) bets for newly established tanks.

Personally, I have a 29 gal setup with two zoa's and three leathers. The tank has been up for about a month. I want to expand, but don't want to waste the lives of innocent corals (or my money on them) knowing that tanks tend to be volatile during the first few months.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Xenia, mushrooms, possibly Green Star Polyps, all of those are pretty hardy and would survive anything your new tank might go through while it establishes. I would say zoas as well, but you already have those.

Also, frogspawn coral is an easy and hardy coral to keep.

We had a ricordia mushroom get burried in the sand for several days thanks to our pistol shrimp and goby. We dug it out and it was royally ticked off and sliming everywhere, but it's fine. Still just as nice looking as when we first got it.

Thanks Jwin. Have been able to hold off on fish, but am itching for new corals.

Was actually looking at Ricordia...are these all in the mushroom family?

Most of the softies are going to be pretty easy to keep. GSP/Xenia/Anthelia is all pretty tough to kill off, to the point it can overrun a tank if you don't pay attention to it.

With the LPS, hammers/frogspawn/torch can all be pretty hardy. Candy canes are also pretty tough and will grow quickly with the right parameters.

GSP's will definily overrun your tank to the point that you will hate them like I do
