Really so the live brine shrimp is more of a waste than anything?

Mostly its not worth the hassle. Unless you have fish that don't except prepared food.

Rods food is really good. It has a lot of different meat and veggie matters in it that gives the fish a well balanced diet.

Many of the frozen brine shrimp are gut-loaded with nutrition making a worthless food, good anyway. They typically don't say gut-loaded...they usually say "enriched".

It has been proven in humans to be beneficial for the same reason of keeping the immune system in top shape. Fish are not any different, and it has been well documented that feeding garlic to fish will keep ich and other diseases from affecting fish.
