cernith(spelling is wrong lol) snails or sand sifting stars, some red leg hermits will also do the trick!

For a 54g, one sandsifting star is a good start. No more than one though. They require quite a bit of sand to keep fed adequately. I only have one in my 90. I could probably push it to two, but I am nervous. For you, I would chose a smaller one. They grow slowly, so don't worry about having to replace it anytime soon.

ITO a CUC that can double as sandsifters, get ahold of John Malony at Reefcleaners.org. He is a sponsor and will help you out in a big way. I have done business with him several times and have NEVER been disappointed.

Do you have a hair algae problem?
Fuzzy cheatons, cerith , turbo, nerite snails all work good. If you have a massive hair algae problem consider using a sea hare with a plan to get rid of it if you run out of algae. People here in Dallas pass them around tank to tank and they completely wipe out algae . Of course the root problem of nutrients must be addressed.

+1 to reefcleaners. I put in yet another order to John not more than 10 minutes ago. You can fill out a form there, and he will e-mail you a suggested clean up crew list that is custom tweaked to your tank and needs.
