ok so i hear the word mangrove thrown around a lot as a really good filter. are they mangrove trees? if so how long till they get too big for the tank? also could i gro one or two in my penguin 350 filter to help with nitrates. the filter has two spots for extra filter media that are about two inches by 6 inches and about 7 inches deep. i was wondering if that would be adequate space for a mangrove or two to be placed. thanks in advance.

That would work fine as long as you have some spill over light from your main lights. It takes them a very long time to grow into trees.

Im growing two in a filter smaller than that for my FW tank.

Nope that's the other good part about mangroves. They don't need substrate to grow. If you put any kind of mud or sand in that filter it will fall under the spot your media goes when you take them out to change them.
