Well I'm very bummed. Had a very established and stable 29g reef setup going for a while now. Added a Crocea clam two weeks ago, and last night I come home to find my Midas Blenny going crazy attacking the clam! And I thought they were reef safe?! Well I separated the clam and put a net around it to keep the Blenny out and hope it would heal. Yea right... I come home today and the water is all cloudy, clam disintegrating, and ammonia spiked up to around .3! Clam is out, and I'm getting water ready for a change now. Half of my corals and anemone are all closed up. What do you think my chances are? I've never faced this major a problem before. Thanks for your input.

Here is what it DID look like anyway:

Wow that sucks. And the tank looks really good too. Wish I had your LR. As for your chances, do you mean chances of keeping the fish and corals alive?

Probably will be OK. Get some carbon filtration going also.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
You can try some Prime (ammonia locking products if you have any) but if not running some new carbon and water changes is pretty much all I can think of besides use of microbacter7 if you have any of that.

Sorry for the issues with your tank, it looks beautiful. Stupid fish, I have never heard of that particular fish doing that before, kind of odd.

Hopefully once everything settles down the corals and anemone will perk back up.

I would do a water change and run fresh carbon also. Those blennies are known coral and clam nippers.

Sorry if I'm not helping but where'd you get the rock from? scape looks really good. And as for the problem, run some carbon and do some WC's until the ammonia falls to 0

Sorry to hear this. Blenny's are typically reef safe, but not always clam safe. Usually though, they don't attack the clam, but rather pick at algae on the mantle causing them to close up and starve, but unfortunately, fish are wild animals and anything can happen...
Stress can be a trigger for coral growth. So, often, with some tlc a tank will come back with a vengeance after these situations.

Thanks, yea going to stay up tonight and get a couple water changes done. Also got some fresh carbon going in now.

Just got the rock from my LFS. Nothing fancy really. Wish I had waited till they got some more in and picked some more choice pieces out, but It works.

    Yea, so I see. :-/

    I sure hope so!

Don't change too much of the water at once. I would only do 30% or so every 24 hours. I know some will disagree with that but you can end up shocking the system and make things even worse.
