JBJ 20 gallon rimless frag tank, needs a lid to prevent cats from taking plunge

    1. BRS DIY looks perfect with 1/4 netting but is it sturdy enough to hold the occasional cat? I am thinking no. Is there a sturdier version?
2.Thinking of getting a piece of glass cut that leaves about 1/4 gap in the back near the sump wall. Hopefully the space will provide enough gas exchange and cut down on condensation to the lid. Thoughts?

    Any alternative ideas welcome.

What about an acrylic top with holes/slots cut into it for gas exchange, but not kitty exchange?
Being that it's rimless, you could get the sides and back bent down so it stays snug on your tank and doesn't slide off so easily.

Yes, acrylic just dawned on me. Hmmm, it might even be cheaper than glass, not as heavy and if it gets scratched I can just change it out. Next question is do glass shops typically work with acrylic as well?

Now that I do not know. I would think some of them would, it only makes sense.

So yes the local glass places works with plexiglass, but does not do cut outs or drill holes into plexiglass. That I can probably do easy enough.

I was thinking of going with eggcrate on mine.. I think that would be sturdy enough and can be snipped to whatever size you need.

I say eggcrate or glass. Acrylic will warp.
Or a really tall stand. :)

I'm with Matt. As long as you have good flow at the surface and keep the glass moderately clean, there will be no issues.

Yeah I read that the acrylic warps and yellows so no acrylic.
Eggcrate is what I am going to look into next.

    What size tank CBS?

I really have to wonder how many times the cats will try to jump into it. The crazy cat did it once with the old tank, I might be kidding myself but I just do not see a cat willfully jumping into a tank after once or twice. I really want to keep that rimless look intact. When I do the leak test I might just let cat jump in and get it out of her system.
The BRS DIY looks the best.

Thanks for the input everyone. ;)

Before answering I need to know the cats name. :)
Cats are awesome. Mine loves stands in too of my tank and swatting the fish on the front glass. It's funny.
