I've been thinking about having a tank when I go to college, and I was thinking about something fun that could be done and thought "Why not breed some fish?" I have never done anything like this, and thought I should try to get better at understanding and adapting to what the fish will need to mate. So, do you guys know of any cheap, preferably small, fish to breed?

Learn how to raise rotifers and brine shrimp, first. Raising any baby fish can be very time consuming, but rewarding.

not saltwater, but I used to keep african cichlids and would constantly have young fry show up in the tank and grow to full adults... if you aquascape well for it, you'll see the baby fish finding places to hide until they grow larger... I didn't have to do anything except keep the water quality up and feed the fish regularly so they were "happy".

I bred black mollies when I was younger. I didn't intend to but those things were like hampsters! I always had a new batch of fry going. Started trading them for feeder mice at my LFS.

Easiest fish in the world to breed and you don't need any extra equipment. Grab some nice looking females and add a male, instance babies.

Not to rain on your parade, but I don't think there is one, at least one that's cheap and easy in the saltwater world.

People who bread in salt almost always have a dedicated room (or building) with many tanks. It's a big time and money commitment.
