Im watching my two clowns doing a little dance and then one starts vibrating. Now owning cichlids in the past after seeing this I see babies in a couple of weeks. Is this the case with clowns too. Do any of you see your clowns doing it ever?

My do the same sometimes but no
    Babies yet :-(
"vibrating" describes it well. I almost thought he was getting a shock first time I saw it.

they do the "dance" for a few different reasons, it could be them becoming a pair or just showing dominance. It doesnt really mean they are mating. But if they are doing it alot, and they are picking at a rock near their little area that they stay in, and they are swishing the sand alot and doing the dance alot. Thats a more sign that they are mating.

But if they do lay eggs, there is a hard chance for the eggs to survive in a Display tank, they will turn into fish food really unless you remove them.

Oh the old "clownfish seizure". I remember the first time my clowns did this, I freaked out and called all my reefer friends thought the little one was sick. :) But as for the babies surviving its highly unlikely. They need to be fed rotifer when they hatch constantly. Plus the clowns won't care what little speck is swimming around, they will eat them. The eggs they leave alone. Btw my clowns have been "doing the dance" for six months and still no eggs..

yes clowns will eat their babies. they (male) will care for the eggs but once they hatch (if the clowns or other fish hasnt already ate them) they will soon after they hatch. Plus the DT would make it very hard to care for the young even if they were not ate. If you are serious about trying to raise them, do some research about the care. It is something that i have never had any desire to do, but there are some good sites out there if you think you want to try.

I always just let the fish and/or corals eat the eggs

So if you wanted the babie you would have to move the eggs to a separate tank with rotifers...?

    Sorry to hijack.

it is best to have them breed in a seperate tank. I have read that you can put a flowerpot in the tank with a ceramic tile and then the fish will lay their eggs on the tile. They you have to remove the fish at the point that the eggs start hatching and then feed rotifers and I think "green water" a higher concentration of phyto and some other stuff?

I'm not interested in raising them. I'm new to this hobby. I have always had fresh water tanks. So I was surprised to see my newly acquired clowns doing this too. I feel like I am not having the best of luck in my reef tank venture so seeing this made me feel like I am doing something right finally
