i bought some coral from my lfs guy. he usually just brings stuff buy and says its this and that and rare and bla bla bla and says its this much and ill give you a discount and so i am hoping you guys can tell me what it is and what it should go for. he charged me 220 for the round donut and 180 for the red thing. the donut is about 3.5 inches round and the red thing is 3"x2"

    Acans and a scoly

In my opinion, you got ripped off badly for the acans and slightly ripped off for the scoly.

It's never a good idea to buy corals on the whim, you could end up with something you cant care for. Then when it dies your out your money and you killed a coral to boot.

anyways the round one is a scoly. Some of them can get pretty pricey but that is usually the very bright color mix ones. 220 definitely seems very high.

The 'red ones' look like lordhowensis acans, and yes that would be a total rip off. they sell for like $15 an eye from some of the sponsors here.

I don't know if the Scolly was from Australia that would be far price. The Acan also looks like a really nice Ausie and might be worth that much.

I'm just in shock that someone would spend $400 on corals they didn't know anything about

Prices vary a lot depending on location, but those prices sound pretty steep to me.

Do you have a real interest in reefing?

Or, do you love the tank but aren't interested in the details, and pay someone to look after it?

Certainly nothing wrong with the latter, and many people, especially businesses go that route.

However, if you belong to the former, I strongly suggest you know exactly how your tank works and what is in it. In the long run, this will make you happy and your tank will be better for it.

If not, your connection might show up with a anemone or gonipora or indo-elegance that could die and cause you major heartache.

Those are some sharp looking corals, and not too far distant cousins either.
