Because of the swings I mentioned earlier. Derasa can be stunning too.

A 12 gal nano, needs daily attention to SG and monthly routine water changes to keep inverts/corals happy.

The lighting needs greater attention to detail with Maxima and Crocea as well. Derasa are less light demanding and somewhat hardier IMO/IME, and they are cheaper.

Research as much as you can about Tridacna before spending the money.

 

what do you mean great attention to detail on the lighting? will the crocea and maxima work with the stock lighting? I was under the impression they wouldn't.

 

could i keep a mini maxi carpet anemone in this tank? they say they need less light than normal anemones. these the the tiny carpet things. like 1.5 inches.

I researched the derasa, that looks fine for a clam, but I see people calling crocea derasa as well, how do i know I'm getting the right type that will survive in teh tank?

 

maxi carpet anemones are awesome, they do not need halides, and would probably fair well in that tank. but remember it is an anemone and still requires intensive care like all the others. also get one of the bright red ones, they are very pretty and maxis split like crazy in good conditions.

 

will clowns host the little maxi mini?
