I'm in the process of getting my list together to build my led light system for my 300 gallon tank. It consists of 180 galon show tank and 120 gallon sump/refugium I'm going with a total of 144 Cree 3 watt led for the main tank and I want to be able to control the system dusk to dawn, I have been looking into thunderstorm and lightning simulators also. Is the prefilux the only system out that simulates weather? What recomendations do you all have and what experiences do you have with these systems weather it be a prefilux Neptune or ... I also want to control my water movement with it some probes would be nice also

Thunder and lightning is kinda dumb to put on a tank. It scares the bejesus out of every fish I've seen in a video demonstrating lightning simulated via lighting controls.

However, with LEDs, you can dim and change spectrum across the day, which is a very nice feature. I'm pretty sure the ReefKeeper lets you do that, and the Apex probably does too.

I guess I don't see T5 flashing in my eyes as being very natural. There's more to a storm than a flash and a noise. Now, if you are talking about for your own enjoyment... you are evidently attracted to it, so it would be a good thing for you. But, I don't know if a storm is a pleasant experience for them. Sure it happens in the wild, but that doesn't mean they like it. Not that they can rationalize and "fear" a storm, but some critters head to safety when one is coming. I wonder if their stress hormones rise?

My fish react to lights. They don't appreciate it if I have to turn the lights back on for a sec as it is.

I don't know..... I just feel like I need to reach in and turn the bulb in the socket.

I do like the cloud idea... do they have videos of that? I've never seen in an action. I'll go look. I love the internet.

I believe the ReefKeeper Elite does this effect (dimming throughout the day), as well as the Apex. I don't think the ReefKeeper Lite does. Not sure about the Reef Angel, but I don't recall reading about it when I was deciding which to get.

I agree with all above stating the fear and stress for the animals. Cool for you, not for them. Stability is the way to go.

Yes they do have videos of it on you tube. My set up is complete LEDs but it controls more the that it changes your pumps around and it gradually comes in it don't happen all to fast. But the thing I like is the clouds the most the even have people who simulate rain with sprinklers. I know it's slit of me attached to it but I want to know what all other people think. That's what forums are for right! Lol
