Since my tank is now ready for coral, i'm starting to look into the world of corals. I know my light will let me keep any corals i want, but not sure about my flow. I currently have two maxijett 1200s, i want to upgrade to the mp 20, but that won't be for a while, and i really don't want to buy another powerhead because once i do get the mp 20 there will be no use for it.

I plan to start with softies, but i want to keep more lps and sps.

Is that all your flow? return from sump or skimmer? I think zoas and most softies should be fine with that much flow though. I want to get the mp20 as well for my 55.

If you want to get to SPS and LPS in the future I would stick with just LPS for now. Softies can take over your tank in the right conditions and make it harder on you in the future to get more SPS in your tank. Definitely don't put any GSP in. I regret the day I put that SPS choking fake grass in my tank. I'd rather walk out front and look at the lawn than see that coral ever again.

Duncans and Rics, at least for me they're my favorite LPS and softie. Both will do alright in low flow.

I'd say that as long as the water conditions are stable you could really put whatever you wanted in there with your lights. But if you were to keep any sort of SPS, I'd suggest placing them near the flow. Really you should start out with some softies and lps and get the hang of it. They are far more forgiving. My first corals were pink pom pom xenia, a toadstool, a red mushroom coral, red button polyps, galaxia, and some orange and green zoas. They all still thrive in my system and I still enjoy them all.

    yea i like duncans

yea water conditions seem to be stable, i still need to get new tests for a few things but nothing has died in my tank so far so i'm thinking everything is stable. And i only want a few softies like the zoas/polyps and toadstool, but not much more than that :D
