what coral is this?

    very good idea! and fyi a fish store that does not back up what they sell or does not take returns IMO is either just trying to make money or is very ignorant about the knowledge in the hobby, i would avoid them in the future :)

    ^ yes but don't burn your bridges. You may need something (heater, pump, salt...) from them in a last minute emergency and if they're the only shop near you, you don't want to be on bad terms.

    yeah they are just ignorant. all the coral they get is a set price at 40$. no matter what size or how rare. the thing is you can get massive pieces that would be around 150$ at a lfs that specifies them. like i said i will just make sure i fid out what coral it is before i buy. i got a guy in my local reef club that will trade me frags for it :)

    FWIW, round flower pot gonioporas are very hard to keep, but red and green encrusting types are not that hard to keep as long as you have an established system. These types of goniopora usually aren't round and are more squashed with shorter tentacles. I've had very good success with all of these and have even grown frags of the green one.
