Im trying to find a coral that my clown fish will likely host too, right now they host the return hose in the top corner of the tank and they dont get seen very often. My tank isnt old enough for an anenmone and I dont want to take the risk. But I was hoping there was a coral that they might host. I have heard Torch and Bubble coral have worked, have any of you guys had an experience?? Thanks!

I have a clownfish that is hosting in a zoanthid colony....not sure he is supposed to do that, but the fish and the coral both dont seem to mind

I have heard of fragspawns, torches, hammers, elegances, some leathers. Typically things with long polyps/tentacles.

The clowns might irritate a torch or bubble coral with the constant rubbing. I know that it was the case with my tank. I have a large frogspawn that doesn't seem to mind the clowns at all.

It's always hit-and-miss when trying to pair clowns with a host if they were not purchased together. I had a small variety of polyps, mushrooms, softies, LPS, and 3 different nems... my clowns still preferred the heater.

Kristi, is your tank mature and established? I think that these time guidlines are unimportant for most things (besides mandarins). If your tank is cycled and established with fish then a nem should be fine. I really don't see the difference between a 2 month tank and a 6 month tank. I think you are competeant enought to try a small BTA (bubble tip).

Don't take my word for it though!

How old is the tank? Lighting is even more important. I have seen clowns host some weird stuff. They like bubble tip anemones and carpet anemones. I have two massive bubble tips and my clowns jump from one to the other. You're pretty lucky they want to host already. Mine took 6 months to host.

Agreed. I have a gbta and two black and white clowns. Clowns want nothing to do with the nem.
