I'm relatively dumb when it comes to corals. I realize there are many many kinds and each kind has different requirements. I'd like more corals and make a mini reef tank but I don't know where to go from here.

I've got a 12 gallon JBJ bio cube with PC lights, one white and one actinic. I've got live rock going to just below the surface of the water so I can put coral at different distances from the lighting. I have no plans of upgrading lighting in the near future but may go to LED one day. Currently I've only got a firefish, a cleaner shrimp, and a peppermint shrimp in it. I also have a rock with 8 mushroom's on it. They seem to love where they're at because they really spread out during the day and get pretty big.

I'd like other coral at the bottom, some in the middle, and some at the top. I'm OK with all soft corals which I think are all I can keep with the PC bulbs anyways. I want stuff that has color, that isn't super hard to keep, can live in low, medium, and high flow areas, and don't cost a fortune.

    Thoughts?

Duncan and trumpet/candy cane coral would do pretty well in there too.

Zoas are a great option. I like the color assortments and hardiness. I would also say Acans would be a good choice and come in great color/patterns

Ok, thanks so far guys. I did more reading up and research and picked up two small green trumpet frags and a green star polyp frag. In my 12 gallon biocube with PC lighting where should I place these guys? Top, middle, bottom? I don't want to over do the lighting or under do it. I have some mushrooms that are really thriving at the bottom. As of now I've placed the trumpets at middle/top and the green star polyps in the middle.

you shouldn't burn them out at any level. Start them low and move them up.

Check out the acans at austinaquafarms. I just got an order from them this morning. They are cheap, small, and easy to keep alive.
