I am new to the coral and reef tank scenario. I have never had any corals before and my tank has been set up for almost 3 months now and i am interested in buying the best lights for my money's worth (about 100 or a little over) and wanted some good beginner corals too.

    Present set up:
    4 snails
    4 hermit crabs
    2 occelaris clown fish
    1 Royal Gramma
    1 cleaner shrimp
    1 peppermint shrimp
    no good lights
    36 gallon tank
    3 inches of sand
    26 pounds of live rock

How long is ur tank? Look on aquatraders for the Odyssea brand lights. I have two different ones on two different tanks and love them. Most peeps dont like aquatraders cause of there horrible customer service. I personally havent had an issue. So they buy the lights from top dog on ebay but i would recommend changing the bulbs ATI are awesome, i love the purple plus! Kenya trees, mushrooms and zoas are what i started with. Also xenias!

You can get some frogspawn its really hardy and grows pretty fast and after awhile your clowns will lay in it

Definitly go for the 4 bulb T5HO from fishneedit.com. 110 dollars, and awesome IMO. It will support all softies and even some sps

you can see it in the pic..

I am really loving the coral mushrooms and zoas. I've done some research already and they seem to be really low maintenance which is exactly what i need! they seem very beautiful. I am so very excited for this. :)

as mentioned a 4 x T5 set up will get you most LPS & softie type corals. Might want to consider higher quality name setup with individual reflectors, more bulbs, LED's, or other options if you get into SPS though.

for light buyers I disagree with some of the above posters. hit google and the search here before setting your mind on a certain dealer. especially aquatraders. 200 BBB complaints, to me says something. granted they are the same odyssea lights that any number of places sell but the odds you actually get a new, and funtional light.........

Didn't have any trouble with my Odyssea light from aquatraders other than the Moonlights dying. But I gave them a call and they sent me replacements right away.
