I am working on my coral stocking list for a 55g mixed reef (Indo-Pacific). I will be going to college in fall 2012 so obviously will be in a dorm for a yr. If I can I would like to take the tank down after that 1st yr and take it with me to college(I'd like to live in a apartment).

But for now I need a list of corals, nem's(if i can even get these..), & polyps I can get that don't require too much care/feeding, so my dad can take care of the tank while I am away. I was looking at quite a few varieties, which are listed on another thread (http://www.3reef.com/forums/tropical-fish/55g-stocking-list-88691.html), & was wondering if they would be alright. I would like suggestions for new corals, etc, if ones I have listed are too difficult for a beginner to care for(my dad). Also please mention if they require hand/special feeding. Any suggestionscomments are welcome. Any additions would be nice too.:)

Mushrooms, polyps, zoos, palys and leathers are good because there is minimal to no dosing needed. Stonies will need dosing.

If you go with a Condy nem, or any nem for that matter, make sure you have the room for it. Condys get > a foot across..

This will be all in a 55g. The list on my other thread wasn't everything I am getting, just possibilities. The tank is 4' long x 1' wide x 20" tall

if your dad does weekly waterchanges you can keep LPS without dosing anything

getting different types of zoas would be a great inexpensive(depends on type) and low maintenance way of getting some great colors into your tank!!

Avoid xenias! They look nice, hardy and pretty inexpensive, but they grow like weeds! You scrape em off and they grow little nubs back, its almost impossible to get rid of them once they're established.

I like the sound of this. :) But do I have the lighting for LPS?

    I'll keep this in mind.
