well i decided it would be best to go back to school and finish my degree. im the type of person that i need to do it and not procrastinate(as i am doing now hehe).... so i took a winter sessions (3 week) class on sociology. man what am i stupid lol...my professor is killing us this week. its a 101 class with a 15 pg papper a half hour presentation 35 pages of presentation notes as well as a final and midterm all in 1 week.im on the home stretch of my papper and we have to discuss the weaknesses of the book he wrote. i just spent 13 pages of typing y i agree with him lol and now i need to argue y his book is bad lol....ughhhh teachers and their egos::) well thats my rant after my night of reading 400 pages and typing 13 ppages lol i feel much better.

ps i have taken much more in depth classes with much longer pappers i just dont get the work load for the class.... seems a bit steep for a 101 class.....guess times have chaned in the last 5 years lol

I feel for you, bud. I would feel the professor will be biased when given the type of review you mentioned. That's a stupid teacher IMO and having students "grade" your book, or help you find its "weaknesses" is weak by itself.

I wish you good luck with this assignment. If you trashed his book, let us know how did he take it... usually big ego people don't take constructive criticism very well.

lame! I don't like teachers teaching from their own books much, I mean you get enough of their personal perspective working with them. I don't get how you can have a mid term and a final in the same week, unless the coarse is a week long and you and you have you mid on wed and final on fir lol

Ugh...I had a few profs like that...some 101 elective course and they expect me to spend hours and hours per week (3 for every hour in class) dedicating myself to some topic I could care less about but need to take for the credits, and 17 other credit hour beside...::)...oh...and a job and wife and kid....

Yeah, I dropped a couple of those like hot rocks...:hothead:

Sounds like said professor is really full of himself, sounds like you are editors for Edition 2 rather than learning sociology. At least with the internet these days it is easy to check up on a professor before signing up.

I will never take an interum class because of this. Profs like to "prove to you" that you have to "earn" your grade.

Grade his book? Sounds like he is getting you to pay for education while working for him revising his book. Not cool. I would complain (but only after your finished with the class. If you complain while your in the class, your toast)

I've continued my education for many years, 12 to be exact. Completion of my 3rd degree in May. I use this every semester before registering for any course. Some may disagree, but a professors outlook on education can make or break your GPA. It's been my experience, and I've had professors openly say that if a certain percentage of students were not failing, he didn't consider himself doing his job. It's my theory that the intentions and mission of the professor is to have all students successfully learn the material and pass. I'd rather avoid professors with the opposing position.
