they filter stuff out of the sand, it's one of their primary things in the wild for food, in my tanks I have 1 in each of my 2 setups, they eat flake/pellet and frozen as well, the one in my 24g is a real pig

its in a marine tank. ok i just wanted to make sure. bc i give my fish some pellets and i don't see the goby eating it. maybe its a picker eater or just eats when i am not watching.

well im pretty sure he is a scavanger living mostly of the living fauna in your sand bed, thats what you see with him sifting the sand threw his gills he is sifting out the sand for small foods, you may want to start with a meaty food such as bloodworms, mysis ,or brine shrimp.and spot feed with a baster to get him accustomed to you as his source of food. then once you got him nice and healthy you can start to mix some pellets or other dry foods in, then possibly ween him of totaly. This seems to be the typical plan of action for allot of finicky feeders.

mine also will not eat flake/pellet food, but it readily eats frozen brine shrimp, mainly he just sifts sand and pecks stuff off the rocks and glass...as long as there is enough stuff for it to graze on it should be fine...
