I picked up a wrasse as the last fish for my tank last night. The LFS called him a Four Spot Wrasse. I’ll take some pictures once he comes out of hiding, but he looks just like the picture at the link below.

I’m very confused about the scientific name or even the common name for this fish. I have come across identical fish online called Halichoeres leucoxanthes and Halichoeres trispilus. The link below shows both species and the second one looks much different:

Liveaquaria says he will turn pink as an adult, so I am wondering if one of the fish at the second link is a juvenile and one is an adult of the same species. Has anyone had one of these fish? I like the fish but I have no idea what to call him. I’ve seen Lemon Meringue Wrasse, Canarytop Wrasse, White Bellied Wrasse, Yellow and Purple Wrasse, Four Spot Wrasse and White Wrasse. Should I just pick one?

It defineatly looks like a Haliochoeres, but it may be being confused with a banana or yellow coris wrasse hence the confusion.

Some species will have a bit of a color shift from juvi to adult, but I really need a picture to help you out with an ID.

He finally came out of hiding this morning. Here are a couple pictures. Thanks for the help. I'm confident it is a juvenile of some type of Halichoeres, but I just don't know which of the latin names is accurate.

He is really thin but he ate really well and he is swimming strong. He is also eating the little snails that I suspect ate my zoas.
