So I'm wanting to know what you guys and gals think I need to do to help keep my tank healthy and happy.

I have been a 3reef member for a couple of years now but really haven't posted much lately. I went through a major gha outbreak which almost caused me to give up. My problem was I got so busy that I wasn't doing the proper maintenance that needed to be done (Water changes, equipment cleaning, so on).so after deciding that I have spent too much money and time to just say forget it, I decide to take action and get my heart back into the hobby and enjoy it again. I spent about 5 hours one day scrubbing all the rocks and equipment with a toothbrush to get out as much gha as I could. After everything was scrubbed down I got some new gfo and got some new test kits. I started doing 10% water changes every couple days and the results seem to be paying off. I am still seeing gha pop up a little but I'm sure this is to be expected till all the phosphates in the rock have been depleted. All my coral are thriving now and my fish are happy. I recently bought a foxface lo which loves to eat gha and is really helping keep that stuff down. I just purchased a bunch more snails to restock my cuc. I also added 2 korillia picos to go behind my rock to get rid of the dead spots back there. This is a little area so shouldn't require much flow back there. I also purchased some metal halides with t5 atinics. I have never used metal halides before just t5s but wanted some stronger lighting to keep some clams and sps basically a mixed reef. I have about 4300 gph of flow through my tank at any given time. My lights run from atinics 10:00am to 8:00 pm metal halides from 12:00pm to 6:00pm and lunar lights from 8:00pm to midnight. My metal halides are 15k. So any advice on the lighting is well appreciated too. I want my tank to be back to the way it was a few months back so any advice on what I need to do to get it there and keep it there is appreciated. Thanks in advance

Whats your total livestock, and how much are you feeding? Alot of GHA problems come from excess nutrients.

What type of snails did you add?

GHA can not take some time to resolve once you get things on the right track again.

How about using macro algae to export some of the excess nutrients.

Try getting some Astrea and Turbo snails, they will go a lot farther in the battle of eating GHA than the ones you listed.

Macro algae like Chaeto or even some Mangroves.

    Depends on

If you want some in the display.

With Mangrove they can go in the display and I find them very attractive, but the lights need to be set higher in some instances and the mangroves should not be completely submerged. If you can pull that off you are good to go.

Chaeto balls can go in the display, some hide it behind rocks, it needs to receive some light and be kept in ball form otherwise it will float all over the tank.

Both can go in a refugium.
