I think every member in this forum (including yours truly) who's sig contains a number and the word "gallon" next to it is pretty much "scr*wed" when it comes to quality vacation time away from home. Even long weekends become a headache I would suspect.

The lucky few in here have reliable friends/family who have at least some knowledge about this hobby to rely on. Even then, while you're basking in the sun on some island I'll bet your mind is waayyyyyy back home.

Ugh, probably not what you want to hear but last year I went to TN for a week. I had a buddy of mine who was supposed to come over every other day to top off and take care of things. I'm almost positive the dude came over only once...if at all. My pumps were running almost dry and I lost 99% of everything I had, my own tanks included. When I walked into my home I was on the verge of tears. Even my wife was very upset about the losses. Fish I had for years. Corals more than a foot across. Gone. I had a couple survivors, one being my monster clam thank goodness.

I have decided for my next trips I will use battery operated feeders since I have gotten many of my fish to take pellet foods and auto top offs. If things still fail, then they fail. At least there will be no one else to blame.

You might want to look into a pet sitting service of sorts in your area. I have actually thought about offering a vacation service for folks in my area myself.

When I first started in this hobby and had little equipment, I had a neighbor come over once a day to feed the fish. I explained to him about the cubes of brine shrimp and went on my way.

I wish I would have had a light timer, the tank went without any lights for over a week:-X

Last year I had someone come over once to feed the fish mid week, that was it. I left it on auto pilot and crossed my fingers.

This year I have an auto top off hooked up and auto feeder. I am thinking about purchasing a networkable net cam so I can log on and check the tank from the beach. I have family member about 40 miles away from me that can come if I see water overflowing or something running dry.
