This sump will be going to a 75g tank with a bottom drilled overflow and about 80lbs of live rock. The skimmer is a Vertex IN100, and the return pump is an Eheim 1260.

I've been going over the design for quite a while, and i think I have it down now. Does this look like it will work, and potential problems you can see?

Not bad imo, but I would switch the skimmer area with the refuge. If the refuge is first, then you can restrict the flow with the ball valve on the refuge and the rest of the water will keep going to the skimmer area.

Have u looked into the Beananimal silent overflow? If I could go back in time, a silent overflow method is what I would use.

Just a heads up if your tank/sump are located near your tv, etc.

    Good point, noted.

Too late :-/ tank is already drilled, has the overflow installed and filled with water and 80lbs of live rock. It is located near a TV, I keep it rather loud anyways :p

yet another thread I'm folowing with interest....if ya'll will pardon the intrusion (no point in starting a new thread when crashing this one works just as good) :)

my thing is I need exact dimensions: specifically baffle heights (I see 12" but I'm talking about the distance from the tank bottom) ...and pecentage that is "refugium" (thats a 20L ? or has anyone attempted a 30G under a 4ft tank?)

...do I use cut glass or plexiglass for dividers/baffles?

...Do I use pre-filters/socks? if so what of the occasional fish larvae you get in sumps?

I also would like to know about the dimensions...and am also considering a 30L for a 110g reef tank, curious about the 30L fitting under a 4ft tank...is the 30g overkill or would the 20L be adequate?

I am using a 55 gallon under mine and I will have the exact same set up as you except that mine will Y off into two sepreate lines for the intake into the skimer area and refugium.

    also LOOKS GOOD ;D

I would reduce your return area some & enlarge the fuge area. 6-8" is hardly worth it and wont hold enough of anything hardly. You could probably switch the dimisnions of the two and be just fine.

I'm thinking thats gotta be a 20L b-cuz the lengths add up to 30" ...
(I didn't notice the dimensions till now; pardon me)...

Still the baffle heights concern me; I'm gonna use a 4mdsc, and thats 900GPH (or a lil less @4ft head)... I don't want it sucking air by golly

Ditto to the 30G, that would be sweet! ...a actually got a spare 30G, but wonder if I'll be cramped for floor space in the cabinet....I'm thinking I need 12" to feed the external pump NTM the top-off jug, et et
