My maroons are now alone in my 20G tank. It looks like my female chased the 4 striped damsel out of the tank yesterday, as I found it laying on the blanket that covers my ATO water tank. Anyhow, my one anemone has been lighter as what it seen in my avatar.
I have a Hamilton MH light, 250w with 2 65w supplements that I am not using now. I was thinking about using that light over my 20G tall tank that the maroons and BTA are in. I can hang it with my lamp tree and have it pretty much any height over the tank. I know it's a bit strong for a 20G, but I can have it like 18" or more above the water. I was thinking about making this tank into a mini reef, maybe with some LPS. Currently I have a 10000K MH bulb and 2 actinic 03 bulbs. I also have a spare 14000K MH bulb as well.
Do you think this will be too strong for this tank? Thanks.

    Hi Mike

bumping this for the attention of MH users

but IMO based on fact you can increase the height of the unit from the top of the tank
and thus regulate amount of light/ heat reaching the tank, it does not sound excessive to me

Sounds great to me. I'd start it out just a few hours a day and work up to 10 or 12 or whatever your normaly schedule is just to be safe.

Yeah, I think I'll start the change this weekend. I usually only leave my MH on for 8 hours a day, then the supplements for 10. They are used to a 70W HQI that sits about 5" above the tank already, so it hopefully won't be too much of a shock. I just want my anemone to regain all it's color again.
Then again, I'm trying to decide if I should get my 65G restarted and move my20G into there and give my maroons more room to live. That would mean all new lights for that tank though, and a long time before it is "anemone ready."

Hey her is a suggestion if you’re looking to upgrade. When I was about to move to college my mother was starting her 125g tank. Well she didn't want to take care of both tanks and we decided to start her tank by basically adding everything from my tank. I have a RBTA and I knew that it would not survive in that new system. Well her being a Bio teacher and all came up with an idea to use the water from my water changes to fill her tank. Then we added new cured live rock and some of my live rock and let the tank cycle. Then started to add everything from my 35g tank into her's. The last thing to go in was The RBTA and it's host clown. Well the nem is still alive three years later and has even grown. The whole transfer took about 4 1/2 months If you really want to upgrade I would try this.

    Good luck mate

Yeah, I thought about that too. The tank they are in now is well over 5 years old now, so stability is something the fish and nem are used to. I want to modify my 65G to drill it and make a fuge for it. I have a lot of work to get that tank up how it should be, so I have time to decide. I figured I would use my stronger lights in the mean time for the sake of the nam's health. :)
I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't be too much for it is all. I also have a chiller too, so heat isn't much of an issue here either.
