right so here in Geneva we take great pride in our tap water so i was wondering what you folks thought of the water parameters according to this table (official water supplier of the canton of Geneva), and if you would risk using it instead of ro/di water.

where i live the source of water is "l'eau du lac" (lake water)

    looking forward to your feedback

I would still use RO/DI water. Your water looks good...and I am sure it tastes great....but the point of RO/DI is it pretty much strips everything out so that when you add your salt mix, you are getting a clean, consistent formulation each and every time. Essentially it strips out the variables and increases repeatability.

I'd say go for it, with a good sump and macroalgae, and a skimmer.
You can make a DIY phosphate reactor for next to nothing as I did.
NO more cyano, all sps are happy, etc. I do use RO/DI, but I did start with tap, that probably wasn't this good, the TDS is only around 150 however.

I would not personally take the chance with the Tap, even if it is GOOD WATER?

Take a sample and test it for TDS, Phosphates, and other impurities. If it comes out with nothing bad then use it.

But I am betting that you will be getting something bad in the water. RO/DI is the only way to go IMO.

+1. RO/DI is the only option IMO. APC is right in that you want to start out with pure, clean water. It is much easier (not to mention cheaper) to start off with pure water and add stuff to it, than it is to start off with unpure water and waste time and money removing the impurities.

Thats great but this test is only a snapshot in time. The problem with most city water is consistency.I would never use city water regardless of the source. It is just too risky IMO.

I work in the water business, and I can tell you the snapshot, as Vinny put it, is taken during ideal conditions, if you get what I am saying. Not always a representative sample ;)
