I was reading some more reviews online on that coralife skimmer, and everyone has been saying it is very touchy and if not modified or adjusted perfectly it will cause problems.

So what do you guys think of Octopus NW 110
Reef Octopus NW 110 Needle Wheel Protein Skimmer - AquaCave

and whats is a recirculating skimmer? are they better and what extra do they do?

That would be an awesome skimmer. But, it will only work if you have a sump

I am still a little confused on where my fluval 305 comes into play. I drew this crappy little diagram of what I am thinking.

Or does the overflow go to the fluval, then into the first chamber of the sump threw the net into the live rock, then to the protein skimmer, finaly into the 3rd chamber where the pump pushes the water back into the tank.

Do, I even need the fluval? In all the tanks with sumps I have seen so far, they all had built in substrate into the sumps and they don't seem to have external filters.

If the tank is made of glass, make the dividers out of glass, the silicon won't adhere to the acrylic! I found this out the hard way!! Now I'm removing silicon with a razor blade. Not fun.... Not to mention the glass is a lot cheaper, not that you may need to worry about that.. ;D
