I am upgrading my tank from 150 gal to 244 gal... but I am not changing my light.....

I use to have 4 x52w for it... but changed it to metal hallid knowing that I am getting new tank...

    I have an Arcadia Series 4 Pendant 3x 250w + 2x 80w = 910 w

So 910/150= 6.06 w and it great alot of algae in the tank.... but now when I will install it in the new tank it will be:

910/244= 3.7 w so that will be enough light and less algae problem don't you think so?

Another question I would like to know do you count the total water of all your system or just the main tank?

for lighting - you only count the water in your display tank , basically the area that you want to light up for flow, filtration and any chemical treatments etc you count all the water in your system

Lighting is only 1 part of the algae equation - nurtients, such as phospates and nitrates - food for algae are also important - starve the tank of nutrients and the algae never reaches plagued proportions

what are the dimension of the 244? in particular depth- as that has the biggest bearing on the amount of light - wattage of halides

well the tank is 180 cm x 70 cm x 70 cm...... i think that comes to 882 liter....
    so its 71 x27.5 x 27.5 it comes to 233 US gal

I am finished wish adding salt, water, Skimmer, UV, sand, and today and tomorrow I will remove my live rock from the old tank to the new one. I still need to transfer the fish as well.

The light will be at the end .. so that means two or three days....

250 watts (is it single ended bulbs like mogul style, or double ended bulbs like HQI style)? If they are HQI, they should be decent in 27" inches of water. If you get corals towards the bottom of the tank with more demanding light, you could try 400w. The 5 ft 80w T5s will make for nice actinics. You won't need lights on in the tank for the first month or two while it cycles anyway.

It is double ended HQI 3x250w 14000K and 2x80 Actin... what do you mean by no light for the first month? I do have one soft coral and two mashroom? won't they die without light? The fish no problem no need light...
