As stated by the others, if its in good-great condition and in working order, thats a freakin steal! The tank along might be worth $500-$600 alone. Comes with everything that is needed, but with the exception of a skimmer. I wonder if he forgot to mention the skimmer. Depending on the condition, Thats an awesome deal. Luna

OK, so its a great deal. Next question: Is this a crazy idea for a couple of newbies? My lady friend has had marine fish for several years, but never attempted a reef tank. I worked in a fish store for about a year and learned a lot there. However neither of us have done anything this big or complex. Now we are not going to just fill the tank and dump livestock in it. This would be a LONG process, and LOTS of research before doing anything beyond buying the tank. Let me know what you guys think, am I way over my head?

I don't see how this means you can't do a water test. Go over there and put a water hose in it. You don't necessarily have to even fill it all the way...

If it leaks, walk away. If it doesn't, buy it on the spot and siphon the water back out.

I hope your slab is a bit thicker than that ;) but yeah, slabs are great. No problems.

OK, so I have done lots of reading on here today, and wow is there good info. Does anyone know of or have a link to s thread about step by step starting a reef, along with time lines? I am literally going to start from nothing if I get this set up and would like to do it the right way! :)

Thats gonna be a heck of a lot of live rock your gonna have to put in there! I would certainly buy it, even if you were to just keep the equipment, sell the tank alone and buy a smaller tank for the equipment, you'll still be ahead. Just a thought if a 240 is a bit to large for ya...

Won't the equip be overkill for a smaller tank?

    It's just a leak test.
