I seem to be getting what i think is sand all over on the inside of my tank. I don't really have anything to clean the tank with at the moment but would paper towel be ok to try to get the sand off?

I use a mag float, but for a smaller bow front tank a normal algae wand scrubber should do the trick.

paper towel on outside would be good
inside might not be a great idea though

i also use mag float, good product. I've also seen the algae scraper on a stick looks like a solid product.

Yeah you don't want to get any sand between your mag float and the glass ... it will scratch it to heck.

Not sure how sand would stick to glass though ... I'd probably just use my hand lol.

I use a mag float daily, and then once every couple weeks I use a razor to clean off stubborn algae.

sorry Pufer chick - I responded more to the title and not your text - My Bad

no dont use it on sand- use something plastic that pushes it off rather than something that will capture it, drag it about and scratch you tank
flick it off with a credit card, thats what I do anyway

ok and also thanks for the tips about the algae :) i don't have any algae yet at almost 3 weeks old but i'm sure i will get some and need to know how to get it off. And if i get those fake credit cards in the mail i'll use one of those since i don't have any old c.c's and don't want to ruin the ones that i use :D

Mag floats work great on glass tanks but be careful on acrylic as it scratches easily. My tank get a white dust like coating too and its 6 years old, the mag float works god if you keep up with it. Once it has been there several days a single edge razor blade scraper or a Mag Scraper work for the harder stuff. They make plasticblades for acrylic tanks or the already mentioned plastic credit card works too.
