What do you use to keep your ALK/KH and clacium up?

I am trying to convince my wife that I need reactor but it may take some work to convince her to let me spend that much.

So until then I was wondering what other people do to maintain there KH and calcium levels.

Right now I am using C-balance A&B and dosing in the morning and evening and barely can keep it at KH 6.1 and calcium at 400 I will use a ALK buffer and Kalkwasser to try to bring my levels up to the correct levels then the C-balance might maintain it but seems I have to leave town every time I get my numbers up and then my family will neglect will I am gone and play catch up. It seems I am adding alot to keep things in tack so just trying to get a feel what others are doing and how much they add to keep there levels up Thanks

P.S My magnesium was a little low at 1240 and slowly bringing that up as well but normally maintains around 1350-1450

 

I use Ca and Mg from BRS and I buy baking soda a bulk supply store. I have two 7 gallon canping jugs that I use to keep the solutions for alk and Ca and use Aqua Lifters to pump them out. I have my controller set to dose each on 2 hour intervals, one on even hours and the other on odd. I dose Mg as needed usually with water changes.

 

I dose with BRS calc, mag, and soda ash. I dont have an ato, so i just mix in the supplements into the top off water. This way saves a lot of money

 

I see you have seperate jugs for your KH and calcium. Is it bad to add both KH builder and kalkwasser together? I have a large tote that has about 25gls for my make up water with an auto top off can I and add both to that and then continue my morning and evening dose of C-balance.

 

Calcium reactor will add alk/calcium balanced.

This is what I do....

Use buffer and or turbo calc to get my alk/calcium correct. Then I use my calcium reactor to MAINTAIN the levels. A calcium reactor should NOT be used to increase the levels but maintain.

I then use kalkwasser for my top off.
