What do you all use to raise your PH but not ALK. I have reef buffer and trying to bring wife tank up to 8.2 PH from 8.0 but her dKH is already at 13 do to using Reef Buffer to raise PH from 7.8.

I am strictly looking to dose something. I am sure she will refuse an air stone which I read will help(found that interesting).

Anyone have any buffers that will raise PH without raising ALK like Reef Buffer does.

I have been looking around at posts but alot of them are pretty old and not sure if there has been any new products released that you may use or other suggestions.

    Thanks

    Chris

I'm not using any products, since i have a sort of "fear" for most pH buffers. I dont know, it might just be me though. However, here in the summer where its really hot, you can open your windows into the room where your aquarium is. This way, all of the co2 will get out of the atmosphere, and alot more oxygen will come through your room. This oxygen will also come in contact with your water, and will increase your pH drastically. It can sometimes increase my pH from about 8.0 to 8.3 after about 10 minutes. If you do this each day for about an hour (I prefer to do it in the summer, but not in the winter since it will change the temperature of your aquarium water if theres cold outside) your pH might stay pretty stable. Thats my experience with pH, but i've never had huge problems with pH being to low. Speaking of alkalinity, how is the water parameters? How much alkalinity, salinity etc? Do you have lots of surface agitation?

Why do you want to raise your ph? My tank ranges from 7.8 - 8.2 and haven't had any issues

STOP dosing immediately. Running your Alk that high is asking for problems much greater than the perceived pH problem.

Keeping pH somewhere in the 7.8 to 8.4 range is fine. The absolute number is not nearly as important as the consistency. There will be daily swings simply due to the lighting cycle (and photosynthesis); keeping that daily swing within 0.2 is what you should focus on.

    Agreed.

I don't buffer pH, and I strongly recommend against it. While it shows the balance between acidity/alkalinity, pH alone is not a reliable number to be chasing. Keep everything else in check, and your pH will remain in an acceptable range.

Just a preference really to run it higher (8.2). I do understand that you can run 7.8 to 8.3.

    Boywithfishtan;

I live in Florida.. only time we open house is in winter and that is only for couple months maybe.

dkh is 13 which is why I do not want to raise ALK only PH
I run my salinity at 1.025
Open top tank, and probably could increase top aggitation slightly

Short of infusing pure O2, there's no other way...

Ya evolved when I did my reading day after dosing the reef buffer I was shocked and have not dosed since. Generally she runs between 9 and 11 dkh.

    ...

So you all are saying as long as my DKH, Calc, Mag, Phos in check do not even worry about PH unless it drops below 7.8

Aquavitro line has product called balance. Its designed to raise ph without affecting alk. I use the entire line. I use 8.4 and it keeps my ph at 8.2-8.4 and my alk at 11. Check it out, its really good product. Its seachems premier line. I would do something about a ph at 7.8, that's dipping pretty low.
