My LFS actually has a mini library that covers everything from aquarium care/maintenance to specific books on fish and corals. before i buy a fish from them I'll ask some questions but then ill goto the books and look up whatever it is im looking at and go from there.

I was thinking of individual care sheets for each live thing I have for sale that would be taken with the new addition OR even to take home and go over while they consider if this is the fish/coral they would want in thier tank.

A simple to follow basics of setting up and maintaining a SW tank would be well recieved by my newer SW customers I'm sure.

As to books I would like to get some but there are so many with out dated info I think it's hard (for me at least) to know what ones would be good to have availible.

you should setup a computer station, with a computer set on 3reef.com. and tell your costumers to just search for an answer and info or just post a question on 3reef.

good idea! We already encourage people to look things up in the books we have on birds/reptiles etc. The only prob with that for me is what I mentioned the last post.... some of the books I've seen still recomend crushed coral! LOL boy have I learned the hard way with that one. I dont' want out of date info that people are getting from books of mine see?

My LFS quarinitines all new livestock for two weeks, to see if they are eating & are disease free. This is not the case for most LFS. Sell quality & not base it on quantity. If you treat a customer right, you'll have them for a long time. Burn them once and bad news travels FAST! Good marine LFS are hard to find!!

    You'll be fine.. :)

Awesome idea! But, did I mention it's a really small store? I don't even have internet at the store yet! LOL Think of an old west general store but add (last month) running water. Before last month I was still carrying water in buckets from my house!!! Can we say shoe string?

working on setting up QT tanks right now... well right now I'm typing on the puter LOL but you get the idea... I won't even sell a fw fish or a snake (that only eats once a week or less) untill it eats in front of me. That will always be my policy.

    Thanks for the post!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
You may want to include in your outline such items like what are the common diseases seen in individual types of fish.

    Clownfish: Marine Ich, Brookynella.

Tangs: Marine Ich, Laterial line disease....

Nothing fancy just the basics with descriptions and common treatments. You would probably make a profit on people treating disease, setting up QT's when appropriate.

If you look at sites such as Liveaquaria, they do a nice simple outline on corals, inverts, fish.

Nutritional guidelines for fish as well.

    Tangs: Marine algaes....
Angels: Marine algaes, marine sponge products...

You would probably see a profit in speciality foods as well such as quality pellets....

    Sorry you asked yet? ;D

As a matter of fact.... they call this area the 'Copper Country' but there is silver and some gold here. In fact the largest single silver mine by pounds produced was right up the lake shore from me. LOL so bring your pan or I'll find ya one and come on!
