What I would want you to do, comming from a place with only one LFS that kinda led me astray at times the last decade, is let your customers know there are alot of different ways to keep a reef tank. For fish only its not so important, but give them a sheet that has a few websites to forums. Tell them you do it one way, but it might not be the best way for what they want. Encourage them to do alot of research, and offer a setup/maintancence program to make extra money. One LFS in my region only does tank upkeep now its where they get alot of income.

All i know is the way I handle my reef tank is not the way most of you do, and it works for me. But I am not the average customer, since I have reseacrched a 1000 hours or so this year alone (gotta love down time)

The main thing I would encourage is only outfitting people with predrilled tanks. I will never run a tank again thats not drilled. It so much easier to set up a bulletproof system with a sump/fuge and that means alot more happy returning customers.

You just hit on something in the hardware part of my buisness that I've been thinking a lot just lately... pushing fuge/sumps as the way to set up.

The only objections I can see is cost to get it set up.

    Thanks for the post!

I often disagree with Live Aquaria's stated minimum tank sizes. For instance, many fish that they say are fine for a 75 I wouldn't put in less than a 100.

I agree with you there... I've seen several fish that I couldn't imagine recomending for the size they said. That's why I asked... it always seemed to me thier info leaned toward selling the fish rather than what I would consider proper care... but that was mostly FW fish I was familiar with, seems you think SW fish they kind of lean the same way.

Thanks for the post and did I put this thread in the right catagory Inwall? If not move it where ya think because I wasn't sure.

    Thanks!
