 29g biocube. I have the media basket from InTank with filter floss on top, chemi-pure elite middle chamber and the purigen on the bottom chamber. Next to it was the fuge with my chaeto in it and within a week is almost has disintergrated into nothing. I got my chaeto from Gulf Coast Systems and they told me to keep a 6500k daylight bulb on it which I did, the light was shining through the back glass(from which I scaped the paint off the 29g biocube), and then the light had to pass through the plastic of the fuge basket from InTank. Did it not get enough light or did the chemi-pure kill it. I have noticed brown stuff in that back chamber area and think it is from the chemi-pure, don't know for sure?? Any and All help is much appreciated.

My hunch is lack of light. Did you have the light on all the time?

That being said, I personally had chaeto disappear because amphipods consumed it ;)

Yes I had the light on all the time. When it arrived it was in one tight ball and now it is falling apart, turning white and well over half gone.

I would have to say that between the chemi-pure elite middle chamber and the purigen on the bottom chamber you have sucked up all the nutrients that it needed to live.

The 6500 K bulbs are more that sufficient to make it grow but if there are no nutrients it will not. you should however shine the light through the back of the tank where you took the paint off, not from the top through the basket.

When you got it did you loosen it up a bit, while it will grow in that tight little ball you should always loosen that ball up just a bit to allow the light and water to be able to flow through it.

And for amphipods to have eaten a good sized ball your tank would have to be overrun with them.
