This is my 150w 14k corallife de bulb that was broke when we got back home. I have heard of the outer glass being broken from water splashing on bulb. I had an old bulb to put in and see if it would do the same, but it works fine, so I had a friend drop off a new one and I dont want to blow another $70 bulb if I dont need to. Sucks the bulb was only a few months old. Does anyone got an idea on what happened to it? [IMG]

Looks like it just burned up, possibly due to heat. Time to upgrade the bulb ;)

what do you mean upgrade/ heat? My light has dual fans built in it. And I leave the glass bottom off of it.

Wondering if it could be the result of a power surge

I wouldn't leave the glass bottom off of it, as it's a UV shield, and also shields the unit/bulbs from salt creep/spray.
By upgrade, I meant to a better bulb. Coralife isn't exactly known for the quality of their bulbs ;)

I have the glass but I am just a screw short. I was cleaning the glass one day and when I went to put it back in the screw came out and fell about 30" down the rocks. Thanks for the fyi.

possibly a default in the bulb. I'd see if the LFS will warranty it. if not e-mail the pic to the manufacture
