    I'd leave the sponge. It adds to the biodiversity of your tank, it looks cool, and it helps filter the water. GSP are a dime a dozen, and they will still continue to grow around the sponge. Very nice looking sponge btw :)

    regarding picture i did with a DINOLITE versatile microscope via usb directly to computer.
    it is amazing for this kind of picture...
