Heres a thought, maybe you should find a hobby that does not include live organisms. How about stamp collecting?

I have read and listened to a couple marine biologists say the same thing as Tangster about Iodine. 3 weeks ago I threw the bottle I had out. People keep saying this needs iodine and that needs iodine but looking at the amount of iodine in sea water and listening to a few people I consider to be semi intelligent (lol Tangster) I have quit dosing the stuff.

When you consider the fact its hard to test for anyway.

I will say that stuff in the tank looked better the day I would dose it but that doesnt mean its effects are all good.

Semi intelligent !!! I resemble that remark I ain't neither you take that Beck LOL But no Iodine is one of the lest needed elements in a marine system I have never used it ..And if one seems to think they have to then they need to know who to formulate a stock solution and does it properly and None does that. best advice I could oiff is to every toss the iodine period its not even understood is its even needs and or how its used by these animals. I have a semi local expert that is reading this with me right now LOL he feels the same way abouts its use. Oh he is published and in a Mag Calfo puts out.. Getting DNA samples from out brood stock now.. He is intleeengent LOL

I would personally start testing ammonia, nitrite, and ph. This will be the first signs of troubles ahead.

In future, no matter how mad you are the best solution is never dose everything at once, never dose what you don't test for, and pull the hair algae off the rocks instead of tossing them in the sun. We have all had our hair algae out breaks, the first solution is to find the cause, the second, fix the cause, and third, start pulling the hair algae off daily.

The solution to all issues in this hobby is patience, time, and homework.

    Nemo...

    We care, you care...

Please take time to browse the following, which I read often to remind me what I am doing and why I am doing it.

I post the link often because I think it is so important.

    Helps me a bunch.

    Good Luck.

    Regards,

    Scott

    THX

    Does...

Am stuck in "Lesson Four" (...Love Hurts...) --- re: my missing wrasse, which I was really really attached to.

Feel ill every time I pass tank and do not see him comeing to front of tank to "say hi"...:-[

Keep hoping he will show up.

Guess in a while I will have to start shopping for a replacement. --- only thing that is going to cure me of this depression.

In meanwhile am having my psych increase my prozac dosage. :p

i cringe every time someone says their going to nuke or scrub,or dry out their lr.algae spores live something like 7yrs in live rock.as long as conditions are right for algae to grow,it will grow.there is no destroying it if its getting what it needs and there is nothing to eat it.all you will do is kill your coraline and copods and thats the whole value of the rock to begin with.check your perimeters, buy a big clean up crew thats eats algae but never kill your lr.
