    nemo,
dont give up mate we all have our moments ( some just bigger then others hey ).
Theirs is always a lesson to be learned from our mistakes in this case maybee the lesson I hope you see is that its a regular regim of a maintanance schedual is so very important . I understand that the first couple of months of starting out in this hobby is very hard, and once all starts to level out in our tanks they seem to run fine but this is were you need that regiem to kick in to keep it this way.
I hope that you get you tank back up and running bigger and better.

    good luck

Be carfull when you feel flustrated

    HI,
MAny times we over react to a minor problem creating a much bigger problem, if your having algae problems it usally means there's a food source in the loop, its really hard to export phos, it really hard to keep a tank pristine without a good source of RO/DI water.
There are ways to export phos but it usally requires media.
As the algae grows it grabs all the free phos and other stuff, its then trapped in the algae till it finally dies starting the loop again.
I put some rowena phos media in a canister filter when ever the phos is released it will absorb it gradually exporting the phos to a safe level over a few weeks.
Another way is to bind the phos in calcium by using that kalkwasseur it can be tricky though. I had a minor problem with softy coral toxic waste in the water I cleared this with some very high grade carbon instant fix corals jumped as did the coraline.
Skimmers that skim are very important too.:p

    Actually quite serious.

A fish loss is a serious and traumatic event for whole family. - we are fortunate we have not had many.

Our aquarium shares our family room with us and the fish are all a intricate part of our daily lives, as we are in theirs. We all are in close proximity and interact much during any given day/evening.

Each of us has our "favorites." - and enjoy knowing and being aware of its quirks and habits. (even our four cats enjoy watching them as much as we do, though probably not for the same reason - ::) )

The missing wrasse has all of us upset.

The aquarium seems to have lost some of its "balance" which we have worked so hard at creating.

The Yellow tang, the wrasse's schooling buddy and fellow tank "playmate" --- seems to be a bit "lost" also. :p

Just not going to seem the same until this one shows up, or another is found to take its place.

In any event, guess the point is, I would take any steps necessary to protect the lives of my fish, to include bagging them all up and returning them to my LFS if I ran into a problem I did not think I could immediatly cope with. And the best cure for the loss of any pet, is the prompt replacement of another.

(am killing time in downtown Seattle internet cafe while kids are in some kind of "weird" music concert, or at least what they call "music"):p

thanks for the advice i think the issue was the phos.i havnt used it in awhile.but the algae was long.(like magroves of it) rowa phos wouldnt have killed it off.i have to reestablish a strong clean up crew again.i counted them and their numbers have dropped for some odd reason(this was before the pychotic part of me came out).im down to 4 snails and 5 hermit crabs.thats very low.need to bump those numbers up and get some rowa phos.

Algae or not this is a hobby of patience, don't try to ever speed up mother nature.A small environment will change very fast and the outcome of fast/drastic change will always be bleak.
    Just my opinion.
