Good call going with a refractometer- I hope you also got the small bottle of Calibrating fluid.
I've been using one for over a year now- but at first I was calibrating off my 0 TDS RO/DI fluid.
For some reason- when it reads 0 with 0 TDS, it's off with the calibration fluid/ and vice versa.
I now go by the reading to reset the calibration on the refractometer.

ALSO- make sure you rinse with the lowest TDS rinse you have, and clean with a clean cloth.
The slightest residue left on the glass will affect the readings.

Today I had to rescue my Hollywood stunner chalice frag. It seems one of my larger fish- probably the Blue Tang put it up on top of one of my Plating monti's. YOu can see it up there, and it was down on the CC bed with those other Chalices.

I have moved the electrics and replumbed my return line and manifold to fit new equipment in my already full sump for my 1000 liter tank. Lots and lots of work just to move the return line a few inches.

The impeller broke on my decades-old Whisper 60, so I replaced it with a Penguin 350 and vacuumed the CC while removing water for my bi-weekly 10% WC.

actually last night after the lights went out.... I stripped down my power heads and cleaned them as well as the impellers.. also stripped down and cleaned the supply pump to the 2 reactors as well as the return pump to the display tank as part of a quarterly maintenance program...then I added 2K copepods( as a booster to existing stock) to the display tank ( food for my gobie and Manderin)

screwed 3 power strips to the inside of my stand, zip tied all excess wire and plugged them into the power strips. I also set up my calcium reactor again.

I got the red sea refractometor and no fluid came with it. It said in the instructions to use ro to calibrate. I always read 0 tds so that's good. I'll look into the calibration fluid, thanks todd. It's crazy how fish can move our frags.

Perhaps yours will read 0 when using 0 TDS water- I thought mine would, but didn't. Every time my Cal. fluid reads 35 (1.027), my 0TDS reads about negative 2! instead of zero.
If you know someone with some, just use a drop of theirs- really on takes one drop.

NOw I'm wating to try someone elses Cal fluid!

I did try making my own with the RHF article on making it with table salt to make a reliable cal. fluid.
    Same results!

And that stuff is expensive (cal fluid) Some many $ for what about 50cc of salt water?

25G WC today. Which is barely 10% however.
In doing so I siphoned that much out of my sump, and using the end of the hose to suck up any detritus I could get to.
I had 25g @ 1.027 ready with hyper Alk to help keep my Alk up.
I use a Mag 3 to pump it out of one of my mixing containers with.

Enjoyed looking at my DT with the recent background switch from white to blue.
