Successfully split my oversize piece of LR into 2, using a hammer and a padded screwdriver. I was on the verge of selling big piece cause it wouldn't fit, but now I Love the 2 smaller pieces!

I finally made my DIY Kalc doser.

Instead of mixing pickling lime in a cup and pouring it into my sump- in less that 20 secs.,

now I add it over hours.

    DIY doser:
I built a small shelp above my Sump, which is already on a stand in my basement.
I used a clear plastic grape juice bottle
fill it with ro or ro/di (both of mine are 0tds)
Add about 2 tsps pickling lime- SHAKE
    Let it settle for hours/overnight
Then, using only gravity, I drip it in slow with some IV tubing I got from work.
It has a little wheel and slide that can make it run in a steady stream, or drip various times per second - which slowly doses that Kalc mixture into my sump.

    NO pumps, no electricity, etc.

A friend of mine is building a new house and asked if I could babysit his corals for a year, since I have extra room in my sumps. His 90 gallon reef is now condensed down into a 40 breeder. Since he insisted on monetary compensation, I ordered a big honkin' Avast CS3 skimmer.

I did a water change and tested both tanks (QT and DT) for No2, No3, and NH3/NH4. Everything was good, QT finally is cycling! ;)

Here are the results of the tests, if anyone is interested.

Well as for myself, I have done nothing to my setup in a week or two other than just dosing my vinegar. My system has become pretty much self maintaining. I have added a coral here and there, a fish or two but nothing major. I am thinking of ordering another dosing pump for vinegar since I am so happy with the results I am getting from it.

As much as I'm trying to stay out of the tank, this week I've 1. started dosing Alk to address my ever-rising Ca, and 2. added few "reef pets", here is a pic of my favorite so far, the hammer frog

Now that's a good idea! I might blow the back of the tank instead of my normal painful cleaning processes.
