did a 10% water change. First with a sump. When one does a water change with a sump, do you take the water out of the main tank, then turn on the pump and add the new water back to the sump? I wasn't sure......I know a lot of people will do the water change in the sump only? Any advice?

I'll take most of the water out of the sump because lots of gunk builds up down there. The way mine is setup - I can drain and clean half of the sump area which amounts just under 15 gallons. Then I'll do another 5-8 gallons out of the display tank with a light vacuum of the substrate.
I'll then fill the sump back up and add some water (if it needs it) to the display tank before turning the main pump back on.

Yup, there are many ways to do this. I typically take it from my sump, but I have taken from the display from time to time to vacuum the gravel.
I think after a few changes you'll figure out what works best for you and get a good routine set and you'll be golden.
I actually got a mj1200 and put a hose on there so I can just pump water out of my sump and then pump it back in. It works really well and makes it so much easier. The easier it is to do maintenance, the more likely to do it. That's my rational anyway...

    Yep, what they said!

I usually take it from my sump to a floor drain in my basement near my sump.
Sometimes I'll vacuum the DT bottom if I think it needs it.- Usually is some dark stuff discarded!

Get a system that works for you like Matt(zesty) says, the easier more effiecient the better.

I did a 12g WC yesterday, and checked my params about 12hrs later.

My Cacium is down to about 380ish.
Corals look awesome though, I'll get it back to about 450ish in a day or two.
